I’ve had literary constipation for the past half-quarter and it sucks. Apparently, we aren’t allowed to call what is commonly referred to as “writer’s block” writer’s block, since true writer’s block comes when we are well into our old age and we have so exhausted every possible experience to write about, that we have absolutely no clue what else to write about.
Joseph Mitchell wrote magnificent profiles in the New Yorker for decades starting in the 1930s. He is a literary hero of mine.
